How to move artboards in Illustrator

Rearranging artboard locations is often a necessary part of working in Illustrator – but how do you do it?

As you work on larger and more complicated projects, creating, resizing and moving artboards around the canvas will likely become a regular part of your workflow.

As with most tasks in Illustrator, figuring out how to do it the first time can be frustrating, but with a little practice, moving artboards around will become second nature.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open your Illustrator project file
  2. In the left toolbar, select the worktable tool (shift-O).
  3. Click anywhere in the center of your work table and drag it to the desired location.
  4. With the workbench tool you can also grab the four edges or corners of your workbench to resize it if necessary.
